The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) supports and promotes the creative and financial vitality of the major music companies. Its members are the music labels that comprise the most vibrant record industry in the world. RIAA members create, manufacture and/or distribute approximately 85% of all legitimate recorded music produced and sold in the United States.
Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI) collects license fees on behalf of the more than 500,000 songwriters, composers and music publishers it represents and distributes those fees as royalties to members whose works have been publicly performed.
UK Music is the umbrella organisation which represents the collective interests of the UK’s commercial music industry - from artists, musicians, songwriters and composers, to record labels, music managers, music publishers, studio producers and music licensing organisations. The members of UK Music are: AIM, BASCA, BPI, MMF, MPA, MPG, MU, PPL and PRS for Music.
The BPI is the representative voice of the UK recorded music business. We are a trade organisation funded by our members - which include the UK's four major record labels and hundreds of independent music companies. BPI members account for approximately 90% of all recorded music sold in the UK, and globally the UK's recorded music market is the third biggest.
IFPI (International Federation of the Phonographic Industry) represents the recording industry worldwide with some 1400 members in 66 countries and affiliated industry associations in 45 countries. IFPI is a not for profit members organisation registered in Switzerland. It operates a Secretariat currently based in London and has regional offices in Brussels, Hong Kong and Miami
PRS for Music is home to the world's best music writers, composers and publishers. Formed as The MCPS-PRS Alliance in 1997 with the PRS for Music brand adopted in 2009, the organisation brings together two royalty collection societies; MCPS and PRS.
Founded in 1895, the Music Publishers Association is the oldest music trade organization in the United States, fostering communication among publishers, dealers, music educators, and all ultimate users of music. This non-profit association addresses itself to issues pertaining to music publishing.
The Music Producers Guild's web-site hosts a forum for debate and networking, with access to the latest news. There is a Knowledge Bank, which contains a vast amount of information which we are sure you will find useful. The Members' Directory is openly available to search for and contact producers, engineers, mixers, etc.
The Musicians’ Union is a globally-respected organisation which represents over 30,000 musicians working in all sectors of the music business. As well as negotiating on behalf of musicians with all the major employers in the industry, the MU offers a range of services tailored for the self-employed by providing assistance for professional and student musicians of all ages.
Established in 1934, PPL exists to ensure that those who invest their time, talent and money to make recorded music are fairly paid for their work. Overseen by an elected board of directors from within the music industry and an executive management team with a varied range of experience, PPL has a strong corporate governance structure and is accountable to its members and licensees.
SESAC was founded in 1930 to serve European composers not adequately represented in the United States. Though the company name was once an acronym, today it is simply SESAC and not an abbreviation of anything. The Ragged Project has inspired a group of skilled musicians and technicians to create Ragged Music, a project that follows the Ragged ethos and philosophy and applies them to the music industry with the aim of involving the musical arts in social capital.

By utilizing available resources such as supportive venues, high quality recording equipment and a network of artists eager to collaborate and perform, we seek to generate inclusive forms of bonding, bridging and linking social capital in the economy of the Music Industry.

This led us to look at using our available resources to meet these simple desires. Networking with like-minded musical enthusiasts, we formed a creative unit with an easily achievable collective goal at its heart – To assist self-development.
